About This Content Sherman Hill is a fantastic North American freight route, and now you can be the engineer on your own trains on this great railroad line in Train Simulator. Running 60 miles between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, the route is well-known for the tough grades which resulted in the Union Pacific Railroad building new heavy freight locomotives to work the line. The first single track railroad was laid in 1868, passing over the summit at 8,247 feet, and the route was steadily upgraded with double tracks and stronger bridges in the following decades. The Sherman Hill route for Train Simulator features a superb fleet of Union Pacific diesel locomotives including the SD70M, SD40-2, ES44C and SW10, plus some seriously long freight trains for you to haul over the grades. Six scenarios will help you explore this great railroad line, and drivers also have the option of taking Track #3 to Laramie.Includes:Sherman Hill route from Laramie to Cheyenne, Wyoming featuring Track #3 and the famous Dale Rocks, plus realistic storm effects. Union Pacific ES44AC, SD70M, SD40-2 and SW10 locomotives and appropriate rolling stock.6 scenarios:Introduction to Sherman HillWelcome to CheyenneGranite via WyconRunning the #3 TrackThe Midnight Magnet Arrival of the ThunderheadsOur thanks to Train Simulator player Tim Major who suggested the concept for ‘The Midnight Magnet’. 7aa9394dea Title: Train Simulator: Sherman Hill Route Add-OnGenre: SimulationDeveloper:Dovetail GamesPublisher:Dovetail Games - TrainsFranchise:Train SimulatorRelease Date: 20 Sep, 2012 Train Simulator: Sherman Hill Route Add-On Activation Code [pack] This route came bundled with TS2013 so I got it by defult, I would not have picked it out of choice .... I did have a go at driving it once but I nodded off after about 20 minutes and didnt bother with it again.I cannot condemn a route just because i find it boring, its personal choice not a failing of the DLC, Clearly lots of people like routes like this.If you like driving long freight trains slowly through endless desert then this DLC may be for you.. Useless f**king route! i thought id go ahead and purchase this route to get some north american flavor, big mistake. while the route itself is stunning, the controls are horrendous. im a conductor in real life and i can tell you whoever programmed this s**tstorm of a download needs to be fired. theres something very wrong with all brakes. the loco (independent) brakes seem to have no effect whether you're engine light or with a train. the train (automatic) brakes always seem to be stuck on "17%" whatever that means, and they only relase when they feel like it. there doesnt seem to be any way to recover from emergency either, except wait it out and the computer will decide your fate for you. the SW engine also seems to have a feature on its train brake that seems like it gives you the opportunity to acuate as well. for those railfans out there that may not know what that means it is a feature ONLY ON A LOCO (independent) brake that allows the engine brakes to release while the train brakes remain applied. why this is on the train brakes i have no idea. also whenever you go thru a turnout (mainline switch) there is no speed limit in the view screen at the bottom, so be prepared to memorize all speeds thru all turnouts. and as stated above, be prepared to apply your train brakes thru said switch and have NO EFFECT other than the stupid game yelling at you while you watch those negative points accumulate. the route itself is pretty scenic, but as for this TRAIN SIMULATOR, very little is actually simulated... Don't buy unless you like being made into a fool by whoever programmed this s**t route. This is a great route if you like big slow yellow trains and to drive trough desert! But i dont like that so i wront recommend this DLC. WHERE IS THE UNION PACIFIC GAS TURBINE?.. Long trains, good uphill drags, no discernible problems except engine sounds, but hey that's a given. The locos provided are OK, whinges others have made about brakes seem not to be an issue as all stopped at a reasonable pace, keeping in mind that with 80 cars, things do take a while. So, if you gauge yourself carefully and keep in mind long stopping distances, all is fine. The scenery is a bit repetitive, but then this is the prairie not Vegas, so it is fairly represented. The scenarios are all easily accomplished with no issues, although some of the jumping around picking up cars at the outset adds nothing to the scenario itself, especially at the speeds required to accomplish. All in all a good DLC that provides some fun with quick drive and lots of opportunities if you create a free roam scenario or two. One thing, I do like the lightning flashes and thunder cracks in the scenarios that feature stormy weather, they add that little bit extra.Get it on sale, it's a good route.. This route is my favorite Union Pacific route for TS. Running at about 60 miles from Cheyenne to Laramie in Wyoming, the route offer plenty of heavy freight hauling up the grades. An alternate route(via Track #3) runs an additional 9 miles between the two cities with lighter grades. Starting at Cheyenne, you've got a huge yard with sidings, oil refinery and maintenance shops. Heaidng out of Cheyenne Tracks 1, 2, and 3 run side by side a short distance unti Wycon, where a fertilizer plant is situated. Heading up further Tracks 1 and 2 are linked back to #3 via Borie-Cut-off. After that the #3 is isolated from 1 and 2 until Dale. En-route to Dale, challeging grades lie ahead wih the summit of Sherman Hill, the highest area on the Transcontinental RR then it is downhill. Ate Dale Track #3 rejoins 1 and 2 then a short distance ahead #3 diverges back out heading to Laramie via Red Buttes. After Hermosa it is all smooth running through the scenery until Laramie, where another yard is located and a cement plant just outside town on Track #3. Included is 4 engines, a ES44AC, SD70M, SD40-2 and SW10 Switcher #96. Lots of rolling stock in it as well. I recommend this fantastic route!. **Disclaimer: This review will be long because I want to make sure that however buys this DLC understands what they are purchasing! This is a really good route to have in your collection, not just because its the primary UP route in the game (as of 2018) but its one of the VERY FEW routes that Dovetail Games has actually gone back an fixed any bugs and actually updated the majority the sounds for the rolling stock and locomotives. The route was originally released in 2012 and was updated in 2016. The route is around 65 miles in track distance and you travel in some of the most boring scenary in the State of Wyoming. You can travel between Laramie WY, and Cheyenne WY on the double track main and have option to travel on the 3rd track but only in freeroam or in a scenario you created or downloaded. The type of track grades you will incounter is 0.8% to around 1.2% in either direction. It takes around 1.5 hours to go either direction. Now the scenary isn't that impressive but where this route really shines is the rolling stock and locomotives. You get 4 locomotives and a good amount of rolling stock. Here are some very specific details about the locomotivesLocos: **All have:-Working cab lights-Ditch lights-Number board lights-"No Driver" in the cabs (Used for editor and building a consist)All the locos run really well and don't have many bugs, however all the locos have several sound errors which ill explain what they are.Sound errors:-ES44AC Horn never got updated and is the same as was before. -SD70M engine sounds are based off of a real life SD70ACE engine sounds which is incorrect. -SD70M horn has some wierd bug where is plays twice -SD70M bell has an E-bell in game but in real life they use a steel bell.-SD40-2 horn never got updated -SD40-2 has a number board error when there is the #9. For example a unit numbered 3459, the 9 will have a white background and the colors are inverted-All locos have inoperable doors and windows.-All locos have very weak headlights and you can't see them far a distance when you use the free camera angle (Ex of this effect can be found on: P42DC, UP SD60M, F59PH, F59PHI, Amtrak DASH 8-BWH). I know this is a bit nitpicky but when these effects are in all the new released DLCs and you updated this one there is no excuse. The rolling stock sounds are really good and don't have any errors or problems.Overall opinion:Apart from some very specific details, all the locomotives and rolling stock run well. This is a great route have in your collection and I can recommend this! However, WAIT FOR A SALE!Score: 9\/10. This route came bundled with TS2013 so I got it by defuault, except for some reason I don't have the gas turbines. I recommend this route but and the locos are fine besides from the crap horn on the gevo and the sounds on the SD70M but it could have a little more rolling stock included. The route is a typical American Freight route through a deserted scenery. At first this seems a bit dull, but when you play every tree, every rock, every house has significance. There is a lot of rolling stock included witht e the route and a fair number of scenarios are available, especiaaly if you take care to complete your UP rolling stock collection. Some scenarios use the extended weather patterns with lightning, thunder and heavy rain. If you like shuning, there are some large yards.
